Surly's Soap Box

Terrorist don't just wear galabiyyas...
...sometimes they wear tinfoil hats.

I'm sorry to hear that Leo is hanging it up because some leftie thug, whose probably unemployed, sits in a dark room all day, and uses the internet as his only source social interaction and Daily Kos as his only source for information, was threatening him and his family. What a loser.

Yeah...making threats behind the veil of anonymity shows what a big man he is. I hope you get a good lawyer Leo.

By the way: Galabiyya.

Ummm,
Sir, you threatened, nay, fantasized, on this very blog, to beat severely a writer named Garrrison Keillor, for the sole reason that his politics were different than yours.
And you are anonymous.
Hypocrite, thy name is Surly!

I made my anonymous fantasy of beating Keilor here, on my blog. I didn't go to his website and leave anonymous threats to him and his family. Quite a bit off diference there.

Really? How so? I thought your beef was the anonymity aspect? Here's your quote: "making threats behind the veil of anonymity shows what a big man he is"
Big man, Surly. I hope someday you meet the 60+ year old Keillor and show him what a big man you are, and how you won't tolerate somebody expressing his opinion. After all, this is America - who ever said we had to tolerate anybody's opinion here.

(For the record, I have no idea what you're referring to above, in the original post, nor do I wish to. I have a real problem with a "Christian" fantasizing about beating people who think differently than him, which is why I spoke up)

Having the anonymity of a comment troll, you slam my anonymity? Where's your blog so I can go and make casual observations regarding your character and standing?

David, I think it might be interesting for you to look at some of the follow up posts that Surly wrote concerning this matter. Also, if you are really being honest about this, Keillor is a public figure and Surly's post was pretty obviously a joke. Hypocrisy is a charge that could be levelled at most people due to our sinful natures so I would cut him some slack on this.

Surly,
No blog at all, don't have one. Sorry .I'd reveal my real name, but I would assume you have access to my email address and can ask me there. To be honest I'm fairly terrified of Mr. Surly and am more than a little apprehensive about revealing my name here. Unless he does. Surly, that is. After all, if you can run a blog that, as you say, reaches dozens of readers, it would seem that you could reveal your real name with impunity. And I'm not a "troll" either. I stumbled upon this blog the other day (linked from another blog) and was more than a little horrified by that specific post (the one where you fantasize about beating an elderly man within an inch of his life).
And Uncle Ben, no offense, but fantasizing about beating up an old man isn't a very funny joke, not like the jokes on, say, the Cosby Show or Airplane. And it wasn't "obviously" a joke in its original context.

Surly wrote: "I made my anonymous fantasy of beating Keilor here, on my blog. I didn't go to his website and leave anonymous threats to him and his family. Quite a bit off diference there."
So after reading this, just for curiosity, I emailed the entirety of the blog entry in question to Mr. Keillor (I don't know him or anything, just found a contact e-mail). I'm curious to hear his reaction. Especially because he has now been emailed an anonymous threat against him, the type that Surly railed against. Will the real Surly please stand up, and stand behind his anonymous threat?

Well that makes perfect sense. You e-mail a blog-post that the writer had no intention of sending, on a fantasy about whopping on an unadulterated lunatic liberal who he disagrees with, and you equate that with some troll who is making obvious threats himself against someone he doesn't agree with. What kind of moron are you? You're the one who sent the threat. Get some brains.

David (mail):
Dear King,
Umm, about sending Keillor that post? That was a joke. I really didn't do it. Funny joke, though, right? Pretty obvious, right? It wasn't obvious? Hmmm, wonder how that could have happened.
Just for the record, what makes Garrison Keillor a "lunatic"/ Is it the fantasies Keillor regularly shares about beating people up he disagrees with? Or is it something else?
And if I was the one who "sent" the threat (which I didn't), I wasn't the one who wrote it. Which is worse?

Actually, by this point you have become a troll. Doesn't mean I hate you or anything, but a troll is an anonymous visitor who tries to stir the pot. To make a rhetorical point you are behaving badly. I'm well aware that you can turn around and say, "But is that worse than...." That could be done ad infinitum. If you sincerely, in Christian love, want to make a corrective point then I think you could have done better than to call someone a hypocrite. Surely you know this.

Ya know, David, if ya wanted to engage in legitimate dialog and enjoy the spirit and fun of discourse that is prevalent in blogging, we could have fun taking jabs at each other and all that. We don't even have to agree on anything. But the fact that you are harping on one issue (taken out of context none the less) and pretty much choosing to ignore everything else that's going on here (especially recent events and the changing tone of this blog) shows that you are just being a jerk.

Emailing the contents of a post to someone to share it is one thing, but to do it to intentional cause trouble? Well, you have earned "Troll" designation. This is why I am banning your I.P. When you want to play nice, email me and I'll lift the ban. But for now, you bore me. I see people like you all the time: Basking in the glow of your computer feeling all smug, self-righteous, and oh so much smarter than everyone else. Yup, you sure pulled one over on Surly!

As far as my anonymous blogging, it's because my wife asked me to do it that way. Her job occasionally puts her out there in the public and she doesn't need to be getting any flack, particularly from somebody like you who would email a post to her or her boss just for fun.

Hey Garrison! If you stop by, I want you to know that I think you're a loon. I admire your showmanship, enjoy your radio program, but can't stand your politics. And yes, I did write a post about beating you with a golf club while both picking apart one of your asinine political commentaries and mocking a pacifist friend of mine
